Cuti-cuti Malaysia: Kuala Selangor and Sekinchan

Last weekend, I went for a day trip to Kuala Selangor and Sekinchan. That was my second visit but I never get bored with cuti-cuti Malaysia visiting those destinations!

If you haven’t heard or been there, Kuala Selangor and Sekinchan are small towns on the west coast of Malaysia.

They’re famous for fresh seafood, lush scenery, paddy field, mirror lake and fireflies boat rides.

From KL to Kuala Selangor it takes around 1.5 hours by car, and from Kuala Selangor to Sekinchan is just around 30 minutes.

They are far far away from the city but the highway is smooth and the scenery is lush – so you’re up for a good, long ride!

Heong peah, green bean paste peah etc… fresh from the oven!

For this trip, you need to prepare an empty stomach, cash, mineral water also good company and music (for the long drive) 🙂

I departed from KL at 10.30 am, nice timing coz once you get to Kuala Selangor it’ll be lunchtime. Here’s my Kuala Selangor and Sekinchan itinerary:

Lunch at Jeti Seafood Restaurant, Kuala Selangor

A trip to Kuala Selangor isn’t complete without a fresh seafood meal. Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti / Jeti Seafood Restaurant is one of the famous places to go for fresh seafood.

It’s located just beside the river, so you can enjoy the view while eating.

On top of the freshness, the price of the food is much lower compared to KL. For example, for 4 pax I ordered:

  • Garoupa fish (for 4 pax) – RM48
  • Steamed prawn (small) – RM18
  • 2 Black pepper crabs (less than 1kg) – RM72
  • 2 Sweet & sour crabs (less than 1kg) – RM72
  • 1 vegetable (small) – RM8
  • 1 fried mantou – RM4
  • Tea (for 4 pax) – RM4
  • 3 Rice – RM3.90

Total price = RM243.70

Paddy Field and Rice Mill Factory in Sekinchan

Now that your stomach is full, it’s time to walk around in the paddy field and visit the famous PLS Group Rice Mill Factory.

The factory is in the middle of the paddy field, it’s easy to spot because it’s huge.

You can take Instagrammable photos in the paddy field, especially during harvest season when the paddies are yellow.

The factory also sells various, premium quality rice at lower prices compared to the city.

For snacks, make sure that you buy their crispy rice snack (peanut and sunflower seed flavors), sweet corn and prawn & fish crackers.

I suggest you share the sweet corn and don’t sample too many snacks there. We have more places to go for food hunting!

Mango King and Ah Ma House, Sekinchan

Ah Ma House – on my first visit to Sekinchan

Alright, the next stops not to be missed are Mango King and Ah Ma House, also located in Sekinchan.

After lunch and snack sampling, it’s time for dessert. Not far away from the PLS Group Rice Mill Factory is a roadside eatery famous for its mango juice, Mango King.

There aren’t many seats, so consider yourself lucky when there’s no tour bus stopping there. In my case, the tour group just left when I arrived. Ha!

Banana and potato chips, anyone?

The mango juice is fresh and costs only RM6. If you prefer to eat it, 2 small mangoes cost only RM5.90. Oh btw, please be noted that the price may vary.

Again, don’t drink or eat too much mango because you MUST taste the upcoming pandan coconut at Redang Beach.

Now that you’ve quenched your thirst, let’s go to Ah Ma House! Ah Ma House (aka Grandma’s House) is also a perfect place for you to buy gifts and sample traditional, local snacks.

To the locals, this place brings back memories as they can find their childhood snacks.

The place is very famous because of the vintage design – another spot for your Instagram photoshoot!

Remember to get a tin of Kuih Kapit (baked, crispy thin sweet crepe) for yourself, or maybe more for your friends and family 🙂

Pantai Redang aka Redang Beach, Sekinchan

There’s nothing much I can share about Pantai Redang aka Redang Beach. It’s not huge but nice for a walk after eating too much. Moreover, the beach is clean and the sand is white.

Even better, after you digest the food and drink, remember to ‘refuel’ with a fresh, heavenly coconut with pandan fragrance and rojak 😁😁😁

My two-cent, choose a seat which faces the paddy field as the scenery is beautiful.

Also, NEVER leave the place without sampling the rojak (mixed fresh, sour fruit with sticky & spicy brown sugar, topped with crushed peanut and cracker) as it’s VERY nice… Oh, now I’m craving it again!

Before You Go Home… Enjoy Fireflies Boat Ride in Kampung Kuantan, Selangor

It was around 5.30pm when I finished my rojak at Pantai Redang. If you want to stay around longer, you can wait until at least 7pm for an enchanting boat ride in Kampung Kuantan.

If you watch The Little Mermaid, the cartoon version of Disney, you must remember a scene where Ariel and Eric were on a boat, surrounded by fireflies.

Now, it may not be as romantic as that, but the Kampung Kuantan fireflies boat ride is an experience not to be missed. Especially, if you go for cuti-cuti Malaysia with your bae or crush.

You need to buy an entrance ticket and wait for your turn. Don’t worry, there’s no crocodile in the river and you’ll get your own live vest.

I’m not sure which camera type that’s able to capture the moment, but my old iPhone SE camera certainly failed.

Voila, that’s it! I hope this cuti-cuti Malaysia Kuala Selangor and Sekinchan itinerary helps. Have a great week 🙂

P.S.: sorry, the photo quality for this post isn’t good. I didn’t bring my DSLR :'(
