Hi, everyone! This week let me take you on a day trip to Sibenik, departing from Split, Croatia! I will also show you my beautiful apartment, built on a historical Diocletian Palace β¨β¨β¨
If you read my previous blog post, I shared that I went to Croatia because of Maksim Mrvica, my favourite piano player. After I checked into my apartment in Split, the first thing I did was went to Ε ibenik, his hometown!
It was a short day trip because I reached the lovely town in the afternoon, plus it was raining. However, I managed to visit the main square and had a really nice gelato, which was enough for me.
But before I share more about this Sibenik day trip from Split, I want to show you my cozy, historical apartment π€©π€©π€©
Sibenik Day Trip: Memorable Stay at Apartments Salvezani, Split
Okay, I’ll remind you again that Croatia is an expensive destination. It’s not easy to find budget accommodation in Split that have easy access to everywhere.
There are hostels in Split, but I don’t like staying in hostels. Although I’m a conscious spender, when it comes to travelling, I feel it’s best not to always compare overseas prices to Malaysian ringgit.
Otherwise, you won’t enjoy your holiday π
So, after doing some research, I found Apartments Salvezani, a lovely place that was part of the Diocletian Palace, dating back to the 4th century.
I didn’t regret paying β¬98 for a night at Apartments Salvezani because of the location, good reviews, and friendly host. Please take note that this price was in April, off-peak season.
Yes, it was expensive. It cost me almost RM500 to stay there for a night – but hey, this was Croatia! Luckily I planned for this holiday a year before.
And the apartment was within walking distance of the inter-city bus station and my cruise. Besides, where else could you stay in a 4th-century building?
After the Sibenik day trip, I just wanted to reach my comfy apartment and rest. I wouldn’t be able to rest well if I was staying at a hostel πππ
At the end of my Croatia cruise trip, I extended one night in Split and stayed at the same place, Apartments Salvezani. The day before I went to the airport, the lovely host, Irina, gave me a souvenir π

How to Go to Sibenik from Split, Croatia
Split is a small town, you can explore this charming Croatian town in a day. There’s an inter-city bus station near the port, where you can buy tickets to other cities such as Sibenik, Trogir, etc.
You can buy the ticket on the spot. You can also buy a bus ticket to the airport from this bus station! The buses are full AC and are comfortable.
The bus ticket for the Sibenik day trip from Split costs β¬11.20 one way, and you can choose the time. So, return tickets will cost you β¬22.40.
I was lucky because when I was at the bus station, the next bus to Sibenik would depart in 4 minutes. I quickly bought the ticket, knowing that I would be starving…
Yes, there wasn’t a bakery or shop nearby the bus station to buy food. I was starving on the bus!
I thought it was just an hour’s drive, but it was 1.5 hour drive from Split to Sibenik. Then when we almost reached, it started to rain πππ

Sibenik Day Trip from Split, Croatia: St. James Cathedral and the Main Square
It was raining on and off that day. After getting off the bus, I went to the main square and looked for a place to eat. There were some restaurants overlooking the sea.
I knew this type of restaurant was usually more expensive but it was 2:30pm and I was starving. So I didn’t think much and ordered a traditional Croatian dish, cevapi.
Cevapi is grilled minced meat made with combination of veal, mutton, beef, and lamb. The texture is a little bit like sausages. I was surprised by the fresh chilli that accompanied the dish!
The waitress warned me that the dish was huge. When I asked her about some dishes, she said that I wouldn’t be able to finish the cevapi, so she didn’t recommend me to order more.
She didn’t know that this small girl was starving. Guess what, I finished the cevapi! πππ
The rain had stopped, so I kept walking straight, not knowing where the road would lead me. I saw a tourist information hub and went inside. Luckily I went there!

I told the lady at the counter that I visitted Sibenik because of Maksim and she was happy. She gave me the city map and tourist book, with Maksim’s photo inside π
To be honest, I didn’t research about this town when I planned my Sibenik day trip from Split, Croatia. So, was it worth it? Absolutely!
First, you can visit St. James Cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage.
79% of Croatians are Catholic, so you’ll find many beautiful churches there.
Okay, if you’re a foodie, there’s a one Michelin-star restaurant nearby the cathedral, Pelegrini. The restaurant is right behind the statue at the Main Square, Sibenik.
It’s located in a 14th-century Medieval Tambaca tower. You can choose whether to sit outside on the staircase or the rooftop.

You can also visit the Sibenik City Museum, built in the 14th-century Prince’s Palace. There’s a boat ride to St. Michael’s Fortress nearby.
Aaand, don’t forget to eat pistachio gelato when in Croatia!

There are some gelato shops in Sibenik, but my favorite is Grom. The shop is small compared to other gelato shops but I like the texture of the gelato. It wasn’t too creamy and a bit salty.
Actually, I thought it was a branch of Italy’s gelato chains, Grom, but it wasn’t. When I asked the cashier, she said the ingredients were from Italy.

I couldn’t believe it was already 6:30pm. Since I bought the 7pm Sibenik-Split bus ticket and worried it would rain again, I decided to return to the bus station.
I was a bit disappointed that I could only explore the Main Square during my Sibenik day trip from Split, Croatia because it was raining on and off.
However, I’m glad that I made the trip!

My bus arrived at Split at 8:30pm. Although it was late, but the area near the port was well lit and there were people on the street, so I wasn’t scared.
There weren’t many people inside the Diocletian Palace at night, though. And I had to walk in the alleys to reach Apartments Salvezani. However, Croatia is safe.
If nothing happened to this tiny girl during her Sibenik day trip and returned to Split at night, it should be safe! π
Alright guys, our Sibenik day trip from Split, Croatia has ended. I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post and have an awesome week ahead! πππ
