Exotic Jodhpur: Kuchaman Haveli, Blue City & Mehrangarh Fort

Hi, guys! This week I will show you other exotic destinations in India: Kuchaman Haveli, the Blue City, and Mehrangarh Fort in Jodphur.

In the previous post, we explored Jaipur, the Pink City. Now, let’s explore Jodhpur, the Blue City! πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

Since Deepavali is coming soon, I think it’s good to build the hype, so I’m writing this blog post πŸ˜‰ Besides, I want to show you the beautiful architecture at Kuchaman Haveli and Mehrangarh Fort.

Oh ya, people call Jodhpur ‘the Blue City’ because there’s a neighbourhood of Brahmapuri where the houses are painted in blue. The whole area is similar to the Blue City in Morocco!

I will tell you more about it, but first, let’s check in to our wonderful accommodation in Johdpur: Kuchaman Haveli! 😍😍😍

Kuchaman Haveli, Your Exotic Accommodation in Jodhpur

If you’ve never been to India, you may be cautious when choosing accommodation. Of course, if you choose popular, four or five-star hotels, the service and safety are guaranteed.

As for less popular hotels like Kuchaman Haveli… Yes, it’s beautiful, but is it real? Is it safe?

After all, even when I recommend this hotel, when you google Kuchaman Haveli and go to their ‘About Us’ section, the page content is error. I understand if some of you are doubting this hotel.

What’s written here is my experience when staying at Kuchaman Haveli, Jodhpur with One Life Adventures group tour in January 2024. To sum it up:

  • The hotel existed, it looked exactly the same as the photos you saw online
  • The staff were friendly and polite
  • The food was edible, the breakfast was basic
  • My room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable
  • Remember to bring your selfie stick – the architecture was AMAZING!!!

The group tour arrived at the hotel in the evening. Although the hotel mentioned ‘rooftop’, in reality, it was just a rooftop, not a place to eat or hang out.

So, we had dinner at the hotel restaurant and then slept. The next morning, I woke up very early and wore my British India kurta which I’d saved for my India trip.

I thought it suited well with the architecture of Kuchaman Haveli and Mehrangarh Forth = nice photos πŸ€³πŸ˜„πŸ“Έ

The best part? One of the staff saw me wake up early, so he prepared a hot masala tea for me – for free! Aaw, that’s very nice of him!

My ‘photoshoot’ ended just at the right time when my friends arrived at the hotel lounge for breakfast. Yaaay, luckily I woke up early! Otherwise, I’d feel shy, hehe…

We had a basic breakfast then headed to the Blue City and Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur, here I come~

Exploring the Blue City, Jodhpur

Ok, first of all, sorry I don’t have many photos of the Blue City, Jodhpur to show you. But I guess the photo from BBC above is enough to give you a clear idea of what this neighbourhood looks like 😊

The Blue City was built by the Rajput king, Rao Jodha, in 1459 and was the old city of Jodhpur. It was located at the foot of a hill. When you hike to the top, you’ll reach the Mehrangarh Fort.

Earlier, I mentioned that this city was similar to Chefchaouen, another Blue City in Morocco. In my opinion, Chefchaouen is more tidy and Instagrammable.

However, Jodhpur’s version of Blue City has its charm and history. Back then, the houses in this Brahmapuri neighbourhood were painted in blue because it was the symbol of the upper-caste families.

No pain, no gain. Mehrangarh Fort, here we come!

Now, they are still painted in blue because it keeps the houses cool during summer.

I didn’t explore the Blue City Jodhpur thoroughly, I was there with the group tour because we wanted to visit the Mehrangarh Fort.

If I ever return to Jodhpur, I will go to a nice cafe or restaurant near the Blue City and enjoy the view. I saw some nice ones on the internet!

Admiring the17th Century Architecture of Mehrangarh Fort and Museum, Jodhpur

Located on a hilltop, Mehrangarh Fort was built around 1459 by Rao Jodha, a Rajput ruler. However, his successors built most of the fort in the 17th century.

I couldn’t get enough of the architecture when I explored India. I had indescribable feelings when admiring them…

The detailed carvings, the design… Not all of them were shiny like the ones you see in Europe, yet the rustic feel made them even more exotic and amazing.

Mehrangarh Fort had seven gates and some galleries. In this section, I won’t write much but will let the photos speak for themselves ✨✨✨

Isn’t it magnificent? If I didn’t join a group tour, I think I would spend hours exploring the Mehrangarh Fort and Museum, Jodhpur!

Because I was too busy taking photos, I didn’t spend enough time marvelling at the architecture. Yes, I have beautiful photos for this blog and to share with all of you.

But I also wanted to spend a long time enjoying the art in front of me, with my own eyes… and be present.

However, I have no regrets. Whenever I miss a place I visited before, I read my travel diary (this blog) and it makes me happy 😊😊😊

Bonus: for lunch/dinner, I highly recommend Indique, a rooftop restaurant
