Hi, everyone! I just returned from Guizhou, China, three weeks ago. For the first blog post, let’s explore the charming Wujiang Village and Wujiang Zhailongwan Hotel!
Fyi, this isn’t a paid post. I want to write about the hotel too because I like its interior design and had a pleasant stay πβ€οΈβ¨
If you’re a Malaysian, please maximize your chance to explore China before the end of this year, since you won’t need a tourist visa.
If you’re a non-Malaysian and are staying in Kuala Lumpur, THIS IS YOUR GOLDEN CHANCE to apply for a Chinese tourist visa conveniently π₯π₯π₯

Guys, I’m serious. This is a PSA – public service awareness: visit China before 31 December 2025!
Before the country granted visa-free for Malaysians, I had to queue in front of the visa application center office as early as 7:30 am. And the queue had already reached the emergency staircases π±π±π±
Why???
Because there were SO MANY Malaysians and group tours from Malaysia who wanted to go to China. Once I arrived at 10:30 am, my queue number was more than 100 people to go!
For this Guizhou trip, I walked in without an appointment, submitted my documents, and that’s it! The process was only around 30 minutes π₯²π₯²π₯² #sohappy

I chose Guizhou because I wanted to see nature and visit traditional villages. On this trip, I visitted three traditional villages: Wujiang Village, Miao Village, and Dong Village.
Btw, I could never get used to the Chinese food in China… It tastes different from the Chinese food in Malaysia and is VERY oily. So, be prepared, guys…
The Charm of Wujiang Village, Guizhou

Wujiang Village is a resort area. It feels like Genting because it’s located high on a mountain, and the weather is coldβminus the crowds!
The hotel where I stayed in Wujiang Village, Wujiang Zhailongwan Hotel, had around 90 rooms but was only 40% occupied.
I’m not sure if it was because of winter, but I was happy because it meant I could explore the village and take photos with smaller crowds. Not sure about other hotels, though!
Wujiang Village is unique, it gives you both traditional and modern feels.
For example, all buildings here are built with traditional, Chinese architecture but once you step inside, you’ll most likely be greeted with modern interior design.

The cobblestone road, the traditional Chinese architecture, and the light rain… What could be better for a romantic evening walk? Wait until you see this postcard-view:

The view is even better at night! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
It doesn’t take hours to explore the whole village because it’s not that big. So, what else can you do besides eating, drinking coffee/tea, and taking photos?

Wujiang Village keeps the visitors entertained with traditional and modern performances. Sadly, the group tour and I were having dinner when a traditional performance started in Wujiang River.

From the restaurant’s window, I saw three people in traditional Chinese attire, each standing on a floating bamboo and dancing. I didn’t take any photos, but the bamboo performance looked like this:

After dinner, we had free time to explore Wujiang Village ourselves. Our tour leader said there would be a water fountain show at 7pm and a traditional bonfire performance afterward.
I thought the water fountain show would be something normal, like the dancing water fountain at KLCC. However, this man-made tourist village exceeded my expectations.
I was very impressed by the water fountain show – the coordination of the light, music, beat, the shapes created by the water, etc…

It was still raining, the weather was cold, and there was no seat, but I didn’t feel bored at all watching the 30-minute show! After it ended, my friends and I looked at each other with big, satisfied smiles.
“It’s so beautiful!”
“Yes, very entertaining!”
I didn’t know that water fountain show could be this beautiful! Well done, Wujiang Village!! πππ

Since it was still raining, I decided to skip the bonfire show and went to a cafe. Earlier, I walked past a tea shop that sold a cute panda drink and had been curious.
So, I returned there to keep myself warm and check my social media, etc.

The cute panda drink turned out to be a milk tea topped with whipped cream and a panda-shaped marshmallow. I chose to have my milk tea hot. Aaah… what a perfect drink on a rainy day!
I was at the cafe for 30 minutes before the tour leader came and picked me up to meet the group, as the bonfire performance was going to end.
It was good timing because at least I could see a glimpse of it π

Luckily, my roommate, Kwe Ping, had gone back to the hotel because she didn’t want to watch the water fountain show.
So, when I returned to my hotel room tired, smelled of smoke, and drenched, I could go straight to the bathroom and take a warm shower (she was in her pajamas, ready to sleep)β€οΈπβ€οΈ

Culture, Design, and Architecture: Wujiang Zhailongwan Hotel in Wujiang Village, Guizhou

I like beautiful hotels.
Although I mostly stay in 3-star hotels and homestays, when the Malaysian ringgit is strong or I have an extra budget, I like staying in 4-star or 5-star hotels because of the design and comfort.
During my Guizhou trip, I paid around RM5,000 or 1,127 USD for a 9D8N tour, all-in (return flights, nice hotels, food 3x/day, tour, tipping, entrance tickets, Miao tribe costume rental).
I’m very happy with the hotels used by the tour agency, and one of them is Wujiang Zhailongwan Hotel. It combines traditional and modern architecture and interior design.
From the outside, the hotel looks like a big, old Chinese building:

But when you walk into the lobby, you’ll see a mixture of traditional Chinese interior design and modern furniture.
As you walk further into the restaurant area and your room, it’s as if you’ve been transported from one era to another. Everything became modern and minimalist!

I’m glad my room had a bit of Chinese touch, like the small drawer in the toilet, the bamboo cupboard, and the dressing chair.
Unfortunately, I got ‘masuk angin’ after being drenched in the rain for hours. How do I explain it in English?

Hmm… it’s like the wind has entered your body, so you don’t feel well, start to have diarrhea, and lose your appetite.
So, on the next day, I didn’t eat much for breakfast. Luckily, despite the breakfast area at Wujiang Zhailongwan Hotel looked delicious, the taste was just okay.
Yes, it’s good for me because I couldn’t eat much due to ‘masuk angin’. Otherwise, I would regret it, haha…

For example, this youtiao/cakwe/fried dough, which is a typical Chinese snack… The ones in Malaysia are much chewy and taste better π #disappointed
Although the food was just okay, Wujiang Zhailongwan Hotel has decent options for international tourists, especially those who prefer continental breakfast.

Overall, exploring Wujiang Village aka Wujiang Resort and staying at Wujiang Zhailongwan Hotel was a wonderful experience. If you plan to visit Guizhou, remember to visit Wujiang Village!
Phew, I’m so tired after writing this blog post… I hope you enjoy reading it. Have a lovely week ahead! π»π»π»
