Hi, friends! Psst, your small blogger turned 32 last week 🎉 Actually, I wanted to skip this week’s blog post because I had a relaxing weekend.
Suddenly, right now on Monday evening, I have the inspiration to share with you Boulders Beach (Cape Town) and Karoo Moon Motel (Route 62) in South Africa.
I’ll take you to see cute, chubby penguins in Boulders Beach. As for Route 62… Yes the US has Route 66 but South Africa has Route 62 😉🛣️
There’s a cool and quirky rest stop on Route 62, Karoo Moon Motel. It’s actually a motel but it also has a restaurant. Since it’s a long ride along the route, people would stop by there.
First, let’s see the penguins!
Meeting Pingu and the Penguin Family at Boulders Beach, South Africa
When I read my South Africa tour itinerary and found out that I would see penguins at Boulders Beach, I was so happy. I would meet Pingu in real life, yaaaay! 🐧🐧🐧
When I was a kid, I often watched Pingu. Plus, before my South Africa trip, I only saw real penguins in the zoos, from the other side of the glass walls.
So, I couldn’t wait to see penguins closely 😊
Boulders Beach was the most popular spot to see endangered African penguins. It was a conservation area, built beautifully to protect the penguins.
You would see cute penguins everywhere, but remember! You must not trespass the barrier and touch them.
Also, when you’ve finished admiring them and taking photos, please move aside so other people could do the same.
Be careful not to bump into others, especially photographers with their big zoom-in lenses.
Don’t worry if you travel solo, you can always ask people (or better, the photographers) to take your photo 😉

Karoo Moon Motel — a Quirky Rest Stop on Route 62, South Africa
I didn’t realise that there was a motel at Karoo Moon Motel on Route 62, South Africa. I know, I know!
The name itself was very clear, yet I was charmed by the quirky appearance of the restaurant and its surroundings. The “car” behind me was a decoration, it was just half of the body.
So, I thought “Karoo Moon Motel” was just a quirky restaurant name… Oops! 😂
Let me take you around, perhaps you’ll understand where the misunderstandings came from, hehe!
I wish I had more time to really sit down and enjoy the ambiance. It was spacious, you could choose to warm up inside, near a fireplace.
Or, you could sit outside and enjoy the cool breeze while sipping your hot drinks.
Oh, by the way, the name of the restaurant was Diesel & Crème. It was just beside the Karoon Moon Motel, South Africa.
If you ever visit South Africa and pass by Route 62, make sure to drop by! 😊

Other Quirky Stops on Route 62, South Africa
There are always two sides to a story, guys… Like the photo above.
In reality, it was like this:
I was like, “Really?? We’re going to a sex shop in a group?” 😂😂😂 Alright, it’s going to be a cool experience, looking at the variety of the age…
Apparently, Willem said that Ronnies Sex Shop was a very famous stop in South Africa. Whoever travelled through Route 62 would stop here, because everyone did it!
But alas, when we reached there, the shop was closed. So, we only took photos in front of the shop, with its glorious name on the wall 💋 💋 💋
So, we’ve seen Boulder’s Beach, Karoo Moon Motel and Ronnies Sex Shop. Let me show you another rest stop that was memorable to me.
I didn’t know the name of the small cafe, but it had a quirky design and sold many unique stuff. Not forgetting the beautiful garden in front of the cafe!
Alright, I hope you enjoy our short tour to Boulders Beach, Karoo Moon Motel on Route 62, and other quirky rest stops in South Africa.
Have a great week ahead! 😊
