I miss the taste of tea. To celebrate the Lent* season, I decided to give up my favourite drink for 40 days. It was tough for the first few days but now I’m used to it.
Luckily, I have this blog as a medium to recall and share my experience when visitting the Damro Tea Centre in Sri Lanka. I will also share some photos of the Sri Lankan traditional dance that I saw the day before.
Ceylon tea tastes good, especially when you pair it with Sri Lankan dishes. The dishes here are similar to Indian cuisine — it’s delicious, flavourful, spicy but sometimes oily.
Therefore, having a cup of tea after the meal will help you cleanse the oil and fat.
*Lent is a religious observance for Catholics and Christians. Believers will pray and abstain from meat on Fridays or give up something they love for 40 days in order to practice self-control.
This is to commemorate the period when Jesus fasted for 40 days in the desert and as a preparation for Easter (the resurrection of Jesus).
Watching Sri Lankan Traditional Dance and Fire Performance
Before I reached the hotel, I watched a traditional Sri Lankan dance and performance. Most of the visitors are tourists from around the world.
Although many people opt to skip this experience, I feel it’s good to witness traditional dance and culture when you’re travelling. You can also see their traditional costume.
So why not complete your Sri Lanka travel itinerary with this?

Rooftop Breakfast with Breathtaking View in Sri Lanka
Alright, I was supposed to have my breakfast on the hotel’s rooftop so I could enjoy the beautiful, breathtaking view. But the morning sun was blinding and my chair soon became hot, so I decided to have my breakfast inside.
String hoppers look and taste like meehoon, but in Sri Lanka, we eat them with pol sambol — shredded coconuts with red chilies, lime, tamarind, salt, and chopped onion, potato curry which I thought was cream soup, and dahl.
The food was nice! Although it’s not oily and the sun shone so bright that morning, I didn’t skip my Ceylon tea. Aaah…. what a bliss 😌

Visitting Damro Tea Centre and Garden, Sri Lanka
Can’t get enough of the beautiful, breathtaking view of Sri Lanka? Head to the Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Garden in Nuwara Eliya!
It’s a big and famous tea factory and garden here, producing high-quality Ceylon teas.
Have a tour around the factory, order their signature chocolate cake and of course, a cup of Damro tea. Enjoy the breathtaking views of their tea gardens while sipping your tea.
When you’ve finished, remember to shop for some teas to take home.
On our way back, we passed by the tea gardens. Rukshan asked if I wanted to get down from the car to take some photos. So we stopped for a while to enjoy the view and snapped some photos.
Thank you for the great idea, Rukshan!
