Viñales Day Trip: Tobacco Farm and Cuban Cigars

Attention: The photo above is for illustration purposes only.

Yes, I really mean it because I don’t know how to smoke 😂 When you travel from far, far away to Cuba, of course, you wouldn’t want to miss the Viñales day trip and see a tobacco farm with your own eyes.

After all, Cuban cigars are sought after by cigar aficionados. Who cares if I can’t smoke, maybe I would have some luck with cigars, lol…

The blog post for this week is inspired by an attractive man who appreciates fine cars and smokes vape. Danke schön mister, for the inspiration! ❤️

From Havana to Viñales, by Ford 1954

It takes 2.5 hours to travel from Havana to Viñales by car. I can’t remember how much I paid for this day trip but it was expensive for me since I did it solo.

None of my friends in the tour group wanted to do it, so I decided to just go for it. Otherwise, the backseat of the Ford 1954 could fit three people and we could share the cost.

I booked the day trip from my trusted tour operator, Cuban Adventure. This way, I don’t have to worry about getting cheated or being harmed (especially, since I’m a woman).

The car was clean and the seat was comfortable, although the ride was a bit bumpy. I hope they played Latin songs that I’m familiar with, though…

However, the trip was worth it because I:

  • Could experience riding a vintage Ford car
  • Had experienced tour guide and driver
  • Visited a Cuban tobacco farm
  • Saw a gigantic, prehistoric mural painting
  • Enjoyed a boat ride at Cueva del Indio (the Indian cave)
  • Had my lunch included in the cost (and for the driver + tour guide)

Visitting a Tobacco Farm and Cigar Tasting in Viñales, Cuba

Smelling the dried tobacco leaves… Apparently, they don’t smell!

In the tobacco farm, Viñales, I got a lot of information about tobacco and Cuban cigars. For example, how small tobacco seeds are, how they dried the tobacco leaves, how to roll cigars, and even tried their no-nicotine cigars.

I’m not a cigar enthusiast but it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If Cuba is on your bucket list, make sure to include the Viñales tobacco farm day trip in your itinerary!

The Prehistoric Mural or Mural de la Prehistoria is another thing that you mustn’t miss in Viñales, Cuba.

Love it or hate it, I feel it’s kinda cool to have a bold-colour mural in the middle of the Viñales Valley, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Nearby the Prehistoric Mural, there was Cueva del Indio aka the Indian Cave. My entrance ticket and boat ride were included, all settled by my tour guide. I feel the experience was just okay. It was a short boat ride.

That’s all for this week, amigos! The day trip from Havana to Viñales could be tiring but if you think you won’t come to Cuba for the second time due to budget limitations, I suggest you book the trip.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t smoke cigars. After all, you don’t get to experience a long journey with a vintage car like Ford 1954 everyday 😉
