This week, I feel like taking you to Hermanus, South Africa, and show you how beautiful this seaside town is.
This is thanks to how I currently feel while writing this blog post โ serene yet wavy like the ocean, waiting for the day I meet my childhood crush (fangirling over Maksim Mrvica) ๐น๐โค๏ธ
I decided to come to South Africa in October because it was the season for whale watching.
Travellers would flock to Hermanus, boarding a ship to see the whales, sharks, and other marine animals up close.
On the way to Hermanus, I kept replaying Michael Jackson’s song “Will You Be There” and the scene when Willy the whale jumped over the stone wall in my head.
I was two years old when I watched “Free Willy” in the cinema. I didn’t understand what the actors were saying but I never forgot that touching, amazing scene.
Alas, when I was in Hermanus, the wind and current were strong so they had to cancel the whale watching. I was very disappointed!!
Besides safari, whale watching was one of my top reasons coming to South Africa…๐๐๐
Anyway, I got to wake up a bit later. And I had more time for breakfast and a short morning stroll, admiring God’s wonderful creations โค๏ธ๐๐บ
Hermanus Trip: Evening Stroll and Dinner by the Sea
It was almost sunset when the tour group arrived in Hermanus, . What a perfect timing! After putting my luggage in the room, I went out to admire the orange-coloured sea.
As it was still bright, I also recorded a video of the hotel and the surrounding. Who knows any of you plan to travel to South Africa and visit Hermanus ๐
This hotel was in a perfect location โ it was in front of the sea.
If you want to get a room with balcony, you must book the room many months before your arrival because they tend to be sold out.
In addition, it was near to the city center. In front of the hotel, there was a beautiful pathway by the sea that will take you to the city center.
The pathway was surrounded by grass, flowers, and stone. You would see some nice sculptures along the way. Don’t worry, I’ll show them to you later ๐
Dinner time in Hermanus was really romantic โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
Most of the restaurants were facing the sea and mountains. If you had breakfast there and were lucky, you could see some whales from your seat!
The dimmed light, soft wind blowing my face, and beautiful view made a perfect dinner. Oh, did I mention that the fish and chips were really good?
The fried hake fish + sweet potato fries almost made me cry ๐ฅฒ South Africans know how to cook their fish and chips well!!!
Then, I realised that many of my friends were having dinner at the restaurant not far behind me. So, I joined them after finishing my meal.

A Beautiful Morning Walk in Hermanus, South Africa
The one thing that I regret when I was in Hermanus, South Africa, was taking my sweet time in the morning.
Seriously, I should’ve woken up early, had a quick breakfast, then go for a morning walk by the sea.
Instead, I had a slow breakfast that resulted in me had only around 20 minutes to enjoy the view ๐๐ฟ
Anyway, I really enjoyed that 20 minutes. If you watch the videos below, you would know how I felt.
For the beauty of the earth
For the glory of the skies
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies
Over and around us lies
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise
For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night
Hill and vale and tree and flow’r
Sun and Moon and stars of light
Sun and Moon and stars of light
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise
For each perfect gift of Thine
To our race so freely given
Graces human and divine
Flow’rs of earth and buds of heav’n
Flow’rs of earth and buds of heav’n
‘Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise
(“For the Beauty of the Earth” by John Rutter)
And just like that, all of us went into the bus. As the bus approaching the city center, we saw a small crowd.
What happened?
When the bus made a turn, there it was! A whale appeared from the sea, very close to the land.
We only had a few seconds to see the whale with our own eyes, from the bus’ windows. If only the bus could stop for a while!
Yeah, we were all jealous of that crowd! ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ณ๐ณ
If I ever return to Hermanus, South Africa, I wish I could go for the whale watching. If you stay there for a few days, remember to also do the shark cage diving!
