Hi, everyone! This week, let me take you to the two best seafood restaurants in Malaysia: Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti and Veg Fish Farm Thai.
The content in this blog post is my own opinion and it’s not a paid post π
Actually, this blog post is inspired by my colleagues. On certain occasions, some colleagues from the Cyprus office will come to Malaysia and they are mostly white.
One day, during a company event, I saw a colleague happily filled up his plate with crispy butter prawns. He said that he never had it before, especially the butter crisps.
Him: “It’s very nice!! We don’t have this in Cyprus.” πππ
That was his second plate of crispy butter prawns, hehe! I wonder if he would like crispy salted egg prawns too.
So, I’m thinking maybe some of you who are reading this are expats who want to try different kinds of seafood when in Malaysia – which is a must, tbh!
The two seafood restaurants that I will recommend are halal, so no worries for my Muslim friends π
In addition, the journeys to Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti (Kuala Selangor) and Veg Fish Farm Thai (Ampang) are very relaxing and scenic.
They are located quite far from the city center but there are no traffic jams and the roads are smooth…
It would be nice, long journeys with family or friends, especially the drive to Jeti restaurant in Kuala Selangor.
Food Hunting in Malaysia: Best Seafood at Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti, Kuala Selangor
As you can see from the photo, Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti/Jetty Seafood Restaurant serves Chinese-style dishes.
I know it looks old-style and very Chinese feely, but really – it’s halal! Well, that’s what the notice at the entrance said. And they don’t serve any pork dishes.
Jeti is one of the most famous seafood restaurants in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia.
Just beside the restaurant is another seafood restaurant but I haven’t tried the food there. So in this blog post, I will focus on reviewing what I’ve tried personally.
It takes around 1 hour from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Selangor. Depending on the route you take, you may pass by paddy fields.
If you want to order many seafood dishes, especially crabs, Kuala Selangor is famous for its fresh and affordable seafood.
For example, all of these for around RM500:
All of these could feed three to four people, depending on how much you can eat. In Kuala Selangor, for around RM500, you can get:
- 1kg++ black pepper crab
- 1kg++ sweet and sour crab
- Salted egg mantis prawn (small)
- Steamed grouper (small)
- Steamed prawns (small)
- Stir-fried potato leaf (medium)
- 3 white rice
- Fried mantou (to be eaten with the sweet and sour crab)
- Chrysanthemum tea
Of course, the photo above doesn’t do justice to how glorious the dishes are. Let’s see the zoom up photos! ππΈπ
We shall start with the CRABS. Depending on the restaurant’s availability, you may not be able to choose the size.
The last time I went to Jetty Seafood Restaurant in Kuala Selangor, the waiter said that two crabs would be around 1kg++.
Actually, I’m not a big fan of crabs but since I had come from far far away to Kuala Selangor, I wanted to go BIG.
So we ordered two black pepper crabs and two sweet and sour crabs π€€π€€π€€
In my opinion, Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti serves premium crabs. Usually, when we eat crabs, the flesh would be easily scattered.
But I felt like pulling a slice of chicken meat when eating crabs in Jeti. The crab meat was thick and juicy, easy to be eaten!
I doubt you can get 2kg++ premium crabs and other dishes at this price in Kuala Lumpur!
If you’ve been to Singapore, this sweet and sour crab is similar to that country’s famous seafood dish. Don’t forget to dip the fried mantou into the sauce π
Besides the photos above, there are many cooking styles that you can choose for your seafood and vegetables. In addition, Jetty Seafood also serves chicken, tofu, and other!
Here are some of its menu pages for your reference. If you’re reading this blog post on your phone, you may save the photos or read it on your laptop so you can see the menu clearly π

Remember to bring enough money, guys!
Near the restaurant, you will see some vintage shops selling homemade Malaysian pastries, crackers, and snacks. I like their coconut biscuits and green bean pastries π
Since you’ve driven from far far away to Kuala Selangor, why not go for food hunting in this area? For example, coconut shakes with vanilla ice cream ππ¦π
If you’re craving something sweet after eating seafood at Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti, you can drive for 30 minutes to Sekinchan for mango juices or fresh-cut mangoes at Mango King.
You can also visit the beach sky mirror, take a boat in the evening to see fireflies, visit a factory in the middle of the paddy field, explore Kuala Selangor Nature Park, etc…

Food Hunting in Malaysia: Best Seafood at Veg Fish Farm Thai, Ampang
Alright, another seafood restaurant that I want to recommend in this blog post is Veg Fish Farm Thai, in the Ampang area.
As you can guess from its name, this restaurant offers Thai-style seafood dishes. I feel the food here is Thai-Malay style because the salted egg squids that I ordered were sweet.
Again, this seafood restaurant is halal, guys. The waitress that served me on that day was wearing a hijab π
Besides the relaxing, scenic drive, this seafood restaurant is super duper spacious and has a green design. It’s pleasing to the eyes! πΏππ³
When I was there, I was like, “Is someone holding a wedding reception here?”
I felt confused because of the size of the restaurant and the way it presented the dining tables. I thought for normal diners, maybe we would eat at another part of the restaurant.
But no, it was the designπππ
Did I tell you that there’s a stage and big speakers in the middle of the restaurant? That’s for the live band!
Like Jetty Seafood, Veg Fish Farm Thai serves fresh seafood. You can choose your own crabs, prawns, and fish if you want to. It has its fish pond too, full of tilapias and other fishes…
For the seating, if you’re lucky, you can get a table beside the pond. However, I prefer to sit a bit far from the pond so I can enjoy the view π

Okay, now let’s see the food! For around RM200, you could get:
- Steamed tilapia with fresh lime and chilli
- Fish cake
- Spicy watercress (kangkong belacan)
- Salted egg squids
- White rice
- Coconut ice cream
- Mango sticky rice
- Plain drinking water
The desserts, OH-MY-GOD… You MUST order the mango sticky rice and coconut ice cream when in Veg Fish Farm Thai. They are very yummy and have good prices! πππ

Although for seafood I prefer Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti in Kuala Selangor, but if you don’t want to drive too far away and want to have a comfortable dining experience, I’d recommend Veg Fish Farm Thai.
The restaurant is spacious with high ceilings so it feels cool. In addition, it has a beautiful and clean toilet. I’m not joking. Actually, I like the toilet design in Veg Fish Farm Thai!

What do you think? The toilet looks eco-green and nice, right? π
By the way, on the way to Veg Fish Farm Thai restaurant, you would need to turn right and go down a steep road.
But. The dangerous part isn’t the steep road down.
Since the road is long and smooth, many cars speed up. Please remember to be patient before you turn to the right, no matter how hungry you are!
You don’t want to hit a motorbike or another car. Yes, there could be many cars.
BE PATIENT.
I’m telling you this because… once, after I had my meal at Veg Fish Farm Thai, there was a Grabfood rider who passed away on that spot.
It was a hit-and-run case. I still remember his lifeless body lying in the middle of the road, covered in white cloth…
The Grabfood rider was about to deliver food to a staff at the restaurant… I heard the staff asked one another “Did someone order Grab?” before I left.
There were policemen, I guess called by a good Samaritan. But there’s no sight of the criminal…
May you rest in peace and get your justice, Mr.Grabfood πππ
Alright guys, I hope you enjoy the blog post about best seafood in Malaysia!
Now you can bring your expat friends to Restoran Makanan Laut Jeti in Kuala Selangor and Veg Fish Farm in Ampang π
Thank you for reading and remember be kind to your food delivery riders π
