Meow-ing with the Miao Tribe in Miao Village, Guizhou

Meoow friends, thank you for dropping by my blog! This week, we’ll explore another exciting village in Guizhou: the Miao Village in Guizhou 😸😸😸

The name comes from the Miao tribe, which resides there. As it sounds like cats, the animal becomes a symbol not only in Miao Village, but also in Guizhou.

That’s why you’ll see many cat icons in Guizhou, China!

I stayed for one night in a comfortable homestay here. It was good that no big tourist buses could enter the village, so the area was less crowded and polluted.

I was advised to pack clothes and necessary things for 3D2N in a small bag because the tour bus also couldn’t enter the next destination, the Dong Village.

Once the group tour arrived in the Miao Village, we had lunch and then rode a small vehicle that sent us to our homestay.

The place looked like a traditional inn from the outside, but the rooms were spacious and clean. This homestay felt like a 2-star hotel and I liked the warm atmosphere 😻

Don’t you think this homestay feels like home?

After resting in our room for around 1.5 hours, we gathered in the lobby for a walking tour, Miao tribe costume rental + free time, and dinner.

Exploring the Ethnic Miao Village and Rice Wine Tasting, Guizhou

The ethnic Miao Village was my main reason I travelled to Guizhou, China. I wanted to see the tribe in their traditional clothes, which make up 99% of the population.

First, we returned to the entrance for rice wine tasting. The alcohol level was very low and it tasted sweet, meoow~ 😸😸😸

I chose the most beautiful lady, who looked like a porcelain doll. She was very popular, her rice wine finished fast, haha…

Btw, I’m 200% straight, okay? Being straight doesn’t mean I can’t admire beautiful things and people!

Okay, next, my group tour went to the city center. On one side, you could see a farmland scenery with paddy fields and mountains…

On the other side was the busy city area, which was a little bit commercialized because of many travellers.

For example, many shops offering Miao tribe costume rental and photo shoots, souvenir shops, restaurants with Miao tribe performances, etc.

But luckily, although Miao Village was commercialized, it wasn’t packed with travellers. I could explore the village comfortably and take photos or selfies without being photo-bombed by people πŸ€³πŸ˜ΊπŸ“Έ

Like Wujiang Village, Miao Village became even more charming at night, thanks to the ethnic, wooden stilted buildings, bridges over the river, romantic lighting, and the cultural vibe.

Even better, there were shuttle vehicles that would take you to and from your homestay to the city center for free. It was an initiative by the locals to boost the village’s tourism.

You could walk to your homestay if you want to. But bear in mind, the road to the homestays was steep and if you came during winter or in March, it would be too cold to walk at night.

After the walking tour, now it’s the most anticipated activity: Miao tribe costume rental! The costume rental was included in my group tour price, so I didn’t have to pay anything.

Of course, the Miao tribe costume options were basics and very traditional…

Some shops, especially those that also offered photography services, had a lot of beautiful Miao tribe costume designs.

Since I’m as short as a 12-year-old, I couldn’t fit those beautiful Miao tribe costume designs that looked like Chinese princesses or cosplayers.

Plus, it was a bit pricey, I didn’t want to spend money on it.

Meoow~

So, what did I do? I took selfies and photos of people who rented the costumes πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Hooraay, I got free models for my photo album!! πŸ“ΈπŸ˜†πŸŽ‰

They were tall, with perfect hairdos and makeup. Let them do the difficult things and I’ll press my camera button😊

Once I found a nice spot for a photoshoot, I asked an uncle who sat nearby to help me take photos. I showed him the angle I wanted, and ta-daa! Xie xie, uncle! Thank you, uncle!

At 6:15 pm, the group tour gathered in front of the Miao tribe costume rental shop and departed for dinner. Did you know the Miao tribe was famous for its long table banquet?

That night, the restaurant we went to had long tables so the diners could experience dining like the Miao tribe. Even better, some waitresses dressed in Miao tribe costumes greeted us with rice wine!

I finished dinner earlier than the rest and noticed some performers waited near the stage. Oh, there would be dance performances!

I quickly sat on an empty seat – front row table, like a VIP 😸😸😸

So happy I could enjoy the performances uninterrupted and take some photos! Around 20 minutes later, a group tour came. Apparently, the group booked the table where I was sitting, so I left.

Afterwards, the group wanted to go to the lookout point to see the whole view of the Miao Village at night. It was 9:30pm and I was exhausted, so I decided to return to the homestay.

I had enjoyed the day and night views of Miao Village, so I felt there was no need to go to the lookout point. If I were in Amsterdam, 9:30pm would be considered early πŸ˜›

Luckily, my tour leader, Ya Qi, also wanted to return to the homestay because she felt tired. She said it would take around 30 minutes to reach the lookout point.

It was a good decision to return to the homestay, I could take a hot shower as long as I wanted (my roommate went to the lookout point) and rested early.

By the time she returned, I was already in bed and she could shower rightaway. Perfect timing, hehe!

Alright guys, our journey in Miao Village, Guizhou, ends here. I hope you enjoy reading this blog post. Have a meow-some week ahead! 😸😸😸
